Science & Technology Trip

Science & Technology Trip

November 4-8, twenty students as well as their chaperones, Mrs. Papatheohari and Mr. Zlatanos, traveled to Benediktbeuern, Germany to attend the International Science Camp hosted by Penzberg High School and organized by Anatolia Science and Technology club advisors Mrs. Hatzimavroudi and Mrs. Samara. The subject of this year’s conference was water.

The conference was held in the Cultural and Environmental Center of Benediktbeuren, but the group also had the chance to explore the city of Benediktbeuren and Munich through cultural excursions. They attended seminars, speeches and workshops at the conference, and took fieldtrips to various factories and hydroelectric plants in the area. A group of Anatolia students had the honor of leading a presentation about Anatolia and the college’s efforts in involving students in the fields of science, technology and environmental research.

After the conference concluded, Anatolia students traveled to Munich to visit the Deutsches Museum and the BMW Museum. They also took a short tour of downtown Munich before returning to Thessaloniki.

An interesting cultural experience was the group’s stay at the Youth Hostel Jugendherberge. The hostel is part of a monastery, so students were able to enjoy the scenery and architecture of a monastery while taking responsibility for their accommodations. The monastery was also heated by hydroelectric power, so students were able to integrate their stay into the camp’s educational focus. Students enjoyed their stay in the hostel as they were able to take part in everyday community activities such as setting the table and keeping common areas tidy.

Overall, the conference was an enriching and beneficial experience for both students and educators. Anatolia students were able to meet and exchange ideas with students from other countries, and educators were able to meet colleagues and share teaching experiences. This was an experience that will surely not soon be forgotten!
